Aspi-Jet mobile suction: who is it for, and what for?

HVE suction on a trolley, independent of the chair. What the Aspi-Jet does, its four versions and how to maintain it.

Dental suction is not always installed in the equipment room. There is another approach: mobile suction, brought straight to the chair. At Cattani, this is the role of the Aspi-Jet. Here is what it does, who it is for and how to maintain it.

The principle: HVE suction at the chair

TheAspi-Jet brings HVE suction directly to the chair. According to its manual, it is independent of the chair. Its trolley lets you work in any position.

Who is it for?

Cattani's recommendation is clear: “1 surgery”. The Aspi-Jet serves one chair. It therefore answers specific situations:

  • a treatment station not connected to a central suction system;
  • a station that needs to be movable;
  • a room where the dentist needs HVE suction that is independent of the chair.

For several chairs working at the same time, central suction remains the solution Cattani provides: Micro-Smart for 1 to 2 chairs, Turbo-Smart beyond that. Our article “Dental surgical suction: which model for how many chairs?” details these recommendations.

Four versions: 6, 7, 8 and 9

The Aspi-Jet range has four models. The main difference is how they are emptied:

  • Aspi-Jet 6: 4-liter jar, manual emptying;
  • Aspi-Jet 7, 8 and 9: automatic emptying.

In terms of footprint, the Aspi-Jet 6 and Aspi-Jet 7 measure 530 × 420 × 760 mm. The Aspi-Jet 9 measures 590 × 560 × 760 mm. Check the space around the chair before you choose.

Performance

All versions share the same suction unit, the Uni-Jet 75. Cattani's UK subsidiary describes it as quiet and reliable, with little maintenance. The manufacturer's figures:

  • maximum flow: 1250 l/min;
  • power: 0.4 kW;
  • sound pressure: 58 dB(A) with a no. 10 cannula, 62 dB(A) with a no. 20 cannula.

Since the machine works close to the patient, this noise level matters. It varies with the cannula used.

Safety

The Aspi-Jet manual describes a simple device: when the door is opened, suction stops. A simple, useful safety feature.

The Aspi-Jet is manufactured by Cattani in Parma, under a quality system certified to ISO 9001 and ISO 13485.

Maintenance: three moments

A mobile suction unit handles the same fluids as a central system. Its maintenance is therefore regular. The Aspi-Jet manual specifies:

  • before the lunch break: clean the system with Puli-Jet Plus 2.0 ;
  • at the end of each day: clean the filters and the unit with hot water and Puli-Jet Plus 2.0;
  • every week: clean jars, lids and probes with a sponge and Puli-Jet diluted in hot water.

Puli-Jet Plus 2.0 is suitable for all dental suction systems, wet, semi-wet or dry. It contains no aldehydes or phenol. To compare Cattani's maintenance products, read our article “Puli-Jet Plus 2.0 vs Puli-Jet Classic: differences and use”.

Aspi-Jet or central suction: how to decide

  • Number of chairs: the Aspi-Jet serves one chair. Beyond that, central suction is the way to go.
  • Mobility: if the station needs to move, the trolley makes the difference.
  • Noise: the Aspi-Jet works close to the patient, at 58 to 62 dB(A). A central system works in the equipment room.
  • Maintenance: with mobile suction, the team empties or monitors the jar and cleans the unit at the chair.

Warranty

According to the Aspi-Jet manual, the unit carries a 1-year warranty, subject to the warranty coupon being returned. The Smart manual also lists what can void a Cattani warranty: using unsuitable products or products other than those specified by Cattani, incorrect use, or work by unauthorized persons. So use the specified products.

In short

  • The Aspi-Jet is mobile HVE suction on a trolley, for one chair.
  • Maximum flow of 1250 l/min, 0.4 kW, 58 to 62 dB(A) depending on the cannula.
  • Manual emptying on the Aspi-Jet 6, automatic on the 7, 8 and 9.
  • Maintenance at midday, every evening and every week.
