The suction circuit handles saliva, blood, debris and rinsing fluids every day. To maintain it, Cattani offers two products: Puli-Jet Plus 2.0 and Puli-Jet Classic. Their names are similar. Their roles are not. Here is how to tell them apart and use them.
In-house expertise
Cattani does not stop at machines. In 2003, the group launched Magnolia, a chemical company specializing in disinfectant detergents for instruments and, in particular, for dental suction systems.
Puli-Jet Plus 2.0: the evening product
The Puli-Jet Plus 2.0 is a disinfectant with descaler. It is the core product of the Cattani routine: every evening, a Puli-Jet Plus 2.0 solution is drawn through the circuit with the Pulse Cleaner.
- Compatibility: all dental suction systems, wet, semi-wet or dry.
- Composition: free of aldehydes and phenol.
- Packaging: 4 bottles of 1 liter of concentrate.
- Dilution: 0.8% or 1.6% depending on the action required.
To put this in perspective, a 0.8% dilution means 8 ml of concentrate per liter of solution; at 1.6%, 16 ml.
Puli-Jet Plus 2.0 also has a preparatory role. Before any technical work on a Smart suction system, Cattani requires several washes with Puli-Jet Plus 2.0, followed by a 15-minute wait.
Puli-Jet Classic: the sanitizing detergent
The Puli-Jet Classic is a sanitizing detergent for cleaning the suction system. It has a deodorizing action.
- Bactericidal action: leave overnight, or for at least 1 hour.
- Packaging: 4 cans of 5 liters of concentrate.
- Dilution: 5%, or 50 ml of concentrate per liter of solution.
Contact time is the key. For the bactericidal action, the solution must stay in the circuit overnight, or for at least an hour.
The differences at a glance
- Type: disinfectant with descaler for Plus 2.0; sanitizing, deodorizing detergent for Classic.
- Dilution: 0.8% or 1.6% for Plus 2.0; 5% for Classic.
- Format: 1-liter bottles for Plus 2.0; 5-liter cans for Classic.
- Role in the Cattani routine: Plus 2.0 is the product specified every evening on Smart suction systems and for the Aspi-Jet.
The right tool: the Pulse Cleaner
The solution has to flow through the entire circuit. The Pulse Cleaner is a turbulence generator. It draws the cleaning solution through the circuit. It comes with 16 mm and 11 mm connectors and reducers for small tips, so it fits the chair's different cannulas.
The daily complement: anti-foam tablets
Foam can interrupt suction. Disinfecting anti-foam tablets prevent it from forming. On Smart suction systems, they are placed in the chair filters every day. They come in 10 boxes of 50 tablets.
On the Aspi-Jet
The Aspi-Jet mobile suction unit has its own routine. Its manual calls for cleaning with Puli-Jet Plus 2.0 before the lunch break. At the end of the day, the filters and the unit are cleaned with hot water and Puli-Jet Plus 2.0. Every week, jars, lids and probes are cleaned with a sponge and Puli-Jet diluted in hot water.
Good practice
- Follow the specified dilution for each product.
- Circulate the solution with the Pulse Cleaner.
- Train one or two team members, so the routine never depends on a single person.
- Keep a stock of products on hand at the practice.
Why this daily care matters
According to the maintenance guide from Cattani ESAM UK, the manufacturer's subsidiary, daily maintenance reduces the build-up of bacteria in the system. It also prevents blockages and bad odors. Cattani sums up the benefit: a clean suction circuit, with fewer deposits, blockages and odors.
One point to keep in mind: using unsuitable products or products other than those specified by Cattani can void the warranty. Choosing the product is not a detail.
