Turbo-Smart A, B, Cube, TS, 2V, HP: which version to choose?

Six versions, one technology. What really sets them apart, and how to find the one that fits your practice.

The Turbo-Smart is Cattani's flagship surgical suction system. It comes in six versions: A, B, Cube, TS, 2V and HP. Same technical base, different flows, power ratings, formats and uses. Here is how to find your way.

What every Turbo-Smart has in common

Let's start with what does not change. According to Cattani's documentation, the Turbo Smart is an original and innovative machine, protected by 6 patents. The versions share the same principles:

  • Variable speed via inverter: power consumption is proportional to use. The Turbo Smart brochure states up to 50% energy saving compared with a fixed-speed suction system.
  • Adjustable vacuum, set by the operator as needed.
  • Diagnostic display: vacuum, maintenance, current draw, temperatures, amalgam level.
  • SmartApp: Turbo-Smart, Turbo-Smart TS, Turbo-Smart 2V, Turbo-Smart Cube and Turbo-Smart HP can be controlled from a tablet or smartphone.

Turbo-Smart units are paired with the Hydrocyclone ISO 18amalgam separator. Like every Cattani amalgam separator, it is sold with electronic amalgam level control.

Turbo-Smart A: the benchmark for two chairs

For the Turbo-Smart version A, Cattani states: “Suggested for 2 surgeries working at the same time”. It delivers a maximum flow of 1400 l/min and a maximum vacuum of 210 mbar in continuous operation, for an absorbed power of 1.5 kW.

Its noise level depends on the housing: 68.4 to 69 dB(A) without a cover, 66.4 to 67 dB(A) with a plastic cover, 48.5 to 49.5 dB(A) in an indoor soundproof cabinet. Next to a treatment room, the cabinet makes all the difference.

Turbo-Smart B: same family, for 3 to 4 chairs

The Turbo-Smart version B belongs to the same family as version A and shares its manual. The Turbo Smart brochure describes the range this way: “model A (for 2 surgeries) to model B (for 3-4 surgeries)”. It reaches 1700 l/min for 2 kW of absorbed power. In an indoor soundproof cabinet, it is rated at 48.5 to 52.2 dB(A).

Turbo-Smart Cube A: compact and upgradable

The Turbo-Smart Cube A is built for compactness. Its Uni-Jet 40 suction unit weighs only 9 kg. According to Cattani, its smaller motors save electricity and reduce noise. It delivers 1400 l/min for 1.2 kW absorbed, at 60 dB(A) with ducted air. It measures 500 × 370 × 650 mm.

Cattani's recommendation: “Suggested for two surgeries working at the same time”. The Cube version is upgradable: “model "A" (for 2 surgeries) to model "B" (for 4 surgeries)”.

Turbo-Smart TS: for a practice that will grow

For the Turbo-Smart TS, Cattani's UK subsidiary writes: “Turbo Smart TS is supplied for three surgery use and is upgradable to five surgeries if required”. Version A reaches 1600 l/min. It is rated at 67.5 dB(A) without a cover and measures 435 × 344 × 744 mm.

Three features set it apart:

  • contaminated air is cleaned by a HEPA-grade filter before being discharged;
  • the programmable vacuum adapts automatically to chair demand;
  • electronic protection guards against voltage fluctuations, within preset limits.

Turbo-Smart 2V and HP: when you need more vacuum

Turbo-Smart 2V

Cattani's documentation presents the Turbo-Smart 2V as ideal for implantology and surgery, thanks to a higher vacuum. Cattani specifies that a higher vacuum is advisable when pipes are undersized or runs are too long. It delivers 1600 l/min, 70 dB(A) with ducted air, in 540 × 400 × 650 mm. Recommendation: “Suggested for 4 surgeries working at the same time”.

Turbo-Smart HP

The Turbo-Smart HP is a high-power, variable-speed suction system for restorative dentistry and surgery. Its absorbed power is 3 kW. It is rated at 70 dB(A) with ducted air and measures 510 × 370 × 770 mm. The Turbo Smart HP leaflet stresses that a higher vacuum helps with pipes that are too narrow or with traps. The machine stores events, for an accurate diagnosis of faults. Its innovations are covered by several patents. The Italian product sheet states: “Consigliato per 4 studi in funzione contemporanea”.

Three questions to decide

  • How many chairs use suction at the same time? Today, and in two or three years. This criterion underlies all of Cattani's recommendations.
  • Which procedures do you perform? A lot of surgery or implantology points toward the 2V or the HP.
  • What is your installation like? Narrow or long pipes, or traps, call for more vacuum. The space available decides the format.

One last tip from the Maxi Smart manual: do not undersize. According to Cattani, the saving at purchase is not real, and you lose suction unit service life and energy savings.
